ABOUT SAM

Sam was born in Southern California, notably in the same hospital as her sister and her father but (unfortunately for the sake of the story) not by the same doctor. Nearly a year after she was born, her family relocated to a valley in Southern Oregon where she was raised. Growing up in Oregon, Sam developed a great affinity for the outdoors and her small hometown instilled a deep appreciation in her for privacy. Although she no longer identifies with her religious upbringing, it has become a constant in her work — an integral piece in her genesis that she perpetually attempts to unravel and understand through writing. She also enjoys writing about her family and its history; how the culmination of generations can manifest in a person and how we can grow away from beliefs imposed on us. When she's not reading and writing, she's spending time with her dog, Bear, or improving her handpoke tattoo skill set.

Sam received her BA in English with an emphasis in Creative Writing from Saint Mary's College of California, where she learned from and was inspired by brilliant writers such as Marilyn Abildskov. In pursuit of being an emerging writer, Sam is currently studying to earn a Masters in Fine Arts for Creative Writing, also from Saint Mary's. After living in the East Bay for nearly 5 years, Sam now considers herself a Califoregonian— her love of nature transcending state lines and both places taking up space in her heart.
